Haffner Energy, a key player in the decarbonization of industry and mobility
Haffner Energy is a family-owned company that designs, manufactures, supplies, and operates solutions to produce renewable energy from biomass residues.
Its innovative, patented biomass thermolysis technology has been developed thanks to a 30-year expertise in the transformation of biomass into energy supported by large R&D investments. It addresses the decarbonization challenges and economic constraints in industry, in land, air and sea mobility, as well as those facing national and local governments. It also contributes to regenerating the planet through the co-production of biochar, a natural carbon sink, and /or biogenic CO2.
Haffner Energy is the partner of choice for manufacturers and local governments who wish to wean off fossil fuels and build a future based on decarbonized, sustainable, and competitive energy. Based in France in the heart of the Grand-Est Region, and with operations in Paris, Nantes and Houston, Texas, the Company has developed a technological process for producing renewable gas, renewable hydrogen, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and renewable methanol.
Haffner Energy is a key player also in the circular economy. It generates energy from locally-sourced biomass residues, or biomass from regenerative perennial crops on marginal lands, for which no other use competes. The company generates partnerships between local public and private players who share a common desire to bring about the transition to a sustainable energy mix. In addition, it actively participates in the green reindustrialization of local communities and regions by creating jobs that cannot be outsourced.

Our expertise
Haffner Energy’s expertise has been forged over more than 30 years of experience.
30 years of experience operating projects, as well as doing research, innovation, and development of solutions to accelerate the energy transition towards a sustainable world.
30 years designing, developing, and marketing a pioneering technology capable of producing renewable energies with a negative carbon footprint: thermolysis of biomass residues, protected by 15 patent families (80 international patents).
The technology developed by Haffner Energy produces Hypergas®, a renewable precursor hydrogen-rich syngas that is largely comprised of hydrogen and can be used to produce several types of sustainable and competitive renewable energies:
Renewable hydrogen-rich Hypergas® (syngas) can replace fossil natural gas to produce heat or electricity, for use in the metallurgy, glassmaking, ceramics, paper and brick-making, food processing, and petrochemical industries among others.
Renewable hydrogen replaces hydrogen produced from fossil fuels, used by industry. It can also power cars, trucks and trains, as well as, in the longer term, future hydrogen-powered aircraft (short-and medium-haul).
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Renewable syngas via either the Fischer-Tropsch or Alcohol-to-Jet ASTM-approved pathways, produces bio-SAF which can replace fossil kerosene to fuel existing aircrafts, helping decarbonize the aviation sector.
Renewable methanol can be used to decarbonize heavy mobility and maritime freight, replace methanol from fossil fuels used by industry, and even to facilitate the transport of hydrogen over long distances in the absence of pipelines.
A contribution to the regeneration of the planet thanks to two co-products: biochar and biogenic CO₂
Our technological process for the thermolysis of biomass residues also generates two co-products, biochar and biogenic CO2, whose production can be adjusted according to need. In addition to its qualities as a soil amendment for agriculture, biochar acts as a carbon sink, permanently sequestering atmospheric CO2 captured by plant photosynthesis.
Biochar has various applications, including agriculture and construction. In addition, its carbon sequestration capacity provides an environmental benefit that is monetized in the form of carbon removal certificates (CORCs) on dedicated platforms.
