A graduate of France’s Arts et Métiers engineering school, Marc Haffner specialized in energy optimization and transition since 1993, when he took over the family business under the new name of SOTEN.
Responsible for project management and engineering on cogeneration projects, he worked with SOTEN on 40 projects throughout Europe and Africa, with a total installed capacity of 600 MW. In 2000, he decided to focus exclusively on biomass projects. He was instrumental in the installation of France’s first wood-residue cogeneration plant in 2002.
His unique experience qualified him to be hired as a consultant by the Caisse des Dépôts & Consignation, then by the European Commission, on the subject of energy optimization at thermal power plants.
In 2015, he founded Haffner Energy with his brother Philippe in order to accelerate the development and commercialization of innovative solutions for producing clean fuels through the thermolysis of biomass residues.
