India : An opportunity that feels more concrete than ever | ETM-2026

by Meryl Haffner, Business Development & Technical Solutions Manager

Coming to India for ETM-2026 was a unique opportunity for Haffner Energy. And after these few days in Goa, I can say that I see the potential of the Indian market in a much more concrete way.

Our panel discussion focused on e-SAF, e-methanol and e-DME, but the conversations also highlighted something much broader: the tremendous opportunity India represents for advanced biofuels.
A few takeaways really stood out to me:
– Strong momentum: India has ambitious energy goals, growing demand and a clear interest in developing domestic renewable-fuel production.
– Local resources, local opportunities: India’s agricultural residues represent a significant opportunity to develop new value chains, create local industrial activity and strengthen energy security.
– Technology flexibility matters: Different feedstocks and different fuel pathways will be needed. We need pragmatic policies that focus on carbon-intensity reductions and real outcomes, rather than favouring one technological route too early.
– From ambition to implementation: Building this market will require the right regulatory framework, committed offtakers, financing solutions and collaboration across the entire value chain.

For Haffner Energy, this is particularly encouraging. Our decentralised, multi-feedstock and multi-product platform is designed to turn locally available biomass residues into renewable syngas and create opportunities for different renewable-fuel pathways.
I came to India to better understand the market and build relationships. I leave even more convinced of the opportunity ahead, and of our ability to contribute to it.

A big thank you to Technoidee Gaia for their invaluable help, guidance and support throughout our time in India, and for helping us connect with the right people and stakeholders in the Indian energy ecosystem.

And of course, thank you to the Centre For High Technology (CHT) for organising ETM-2026 and providing such a valuable platform for discussion and exchange.
India has the resources, the ambition and the momentum. Now is the time to turn this potential into concrete projects!
