Data centers: new environmental requirements are creating significant opportunities.

As the development of data centers has become a major topic of debate in the United States, an analysis published on October 29 by Oxford Economics, entitled “US Data centers are on the ballot”, provides particularly interesting insights.

The study highlights that local opposition to data centers tends to decrease when projects deliver benefits to local communities or generate their own electricity.

This observation directly aligns with our vision at Haffner Energy.

The development of artificial intelligence requires considerable energy capacity. However, it must also meet growing environmental and societal expectations:

  • Limit pressure on existing electricity grids.
  • Avoid significant increases in electricity prices.
  • Prevent local communities from having to bear the costs of new infrastructure.
  • Develop environmentally responsible data centers aiming for carbon neutrality.
  • Minimize water consumption, particularly for cooling.
  • Ensure a reliable, dispatchable and competitive energy supply.

This is precisely where the Bring Your Own Power (BYOP) approach comes into play.

Haffner Energy’s technologies enable the local production of renewable, dispatchable energy from biomass, with co-generation of cooling that eliminates water consumption for server cooling.

The current debate does not call into question the pace of data center development. Rather, it raises the question of the conditions under which they will be able to continue expanding.

The future belongs to digital infrastructures capable of combining performance, energy independence, social acceptance, carbon neutrality and water efficiency.

This is where local, resilient and decarbonized energy solutions truly come into their own, and at Haffner Energy, we are at the heart of these challenges and have the solutions to address them.
